Duty of care for screen productions
Making television can be demanding for everyone involved. Contributors may be facing challenging situations or sharing difficult experiences on camera, and crew can face long hours, tight schedules and distressing material. I provide psychological duty of care to contributors and crew on reality, true crime and documentary productions, including those involving children and young people.
As a clinical psychologist with experience in trauma, risk and complex mental health, I help productions look after their people while keeping the work on track.
What I offer
Fitness to participate assessments for contributors, to help the production understand who may need additional support before filming
Risk assessment and tracking across the life of a production, so that concerns are spotted and responded to as circumstances change
Safeguarding support, including productions involving children and young people
Therapeutic support for contributors and crew during and after filming
Wellbeing workshops and training for crew, covering topics such as managing distressing content, recognising burnout and looking after yourself on a demanding shoot
Script consultancy on projects featuring mental health difficulties, trauma and therapeutic interventions
How I work
My approach is practical, proportionate and collaborative. I work alongside producers, directors and welfare teams so that wellbeing is built into the process from the start and support is in place before difficulties escalate.
Support is tailored to each production and the people on it. Depending on your needs, that might begin before filming with assessment and planning, continue during production with check-ins and on-call support, and extend after filming with aftercare for contributors and crew.
Background
I’m an HCPC registered clinical psychologist and have completed the YAFTA Duty of Care in TV Productions Diploma. My clinical experience spans community mental health, a specialist learning disability service, forensic settings, child and adolescent mental health and private practice, which means I’m comfortable working with complexity and high levels of risk. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am registered with the DBS Update Service.
Practical details
I’m based in London but work flexibly, I am available remotely and can travel to support productions. All work is carried out confidentially and in line with professional standards.
